Sugarcoating? No thanks
Sometimes, the “sustainability” section on websites can overpromise and be inaccurate (putting it mildly). We want to use this page to be open and honest about our journey to becoming a fully-sustainable entity.
It would be wrong of us to tell you we completely understand every minute impact that Boxtails, our partners and our suppliers have on the environment. The truth is, any business that tells you they can would be lying. What we can do however, is share our story and ensure you’re aware of every step we are making to be the most sustainable business we can be.
Because Glass is a pain in the ass
When we launched Boxtails, we made a conscious decision to never use glass in our products or anywhere in our supply chain. Our pouches weigh significantly less than glass and are much more compact. Which in turn means fewer delivery trucks on the road, and ultimately fewer emissions.
We are working closely with all of our suppliers and partners to achieve Zero waste status throughout our entire supply chain by 2024.
Packaging for the Planet
In 2020, we embarked on a journey to find a fully recyclable pouch to contain our Cocktails. This was a significant undertaking. “Why?” we hear you ask… well… plastic has certain chemical substance which reacts with alcohol and erodes over time. Fully recyclable packaging needs to be able to naturally erode over time (obvs) therefore it has been challenging for us to find an option that is both fully-recyclable and fully-functional. The good news is that we have finally engineered a pouch that is fully recyclable and this will be used to package all of our Cocktails from January 2023.
Strategic & Sustainable Supply Chain
We source as many ingredients as possible within a 20-mile radius of our Somerset based factory.
However, there are some things we just can’t compromise on due to their importance to bringing you the best tasting Boxtails everytime. One of these is our Rainforest Alliance blend of Arabica and Robusta coffee in our Martini’s and another is our very special “limón chico” (Mexican Lime Juice). To offset the carbon footprint of these products, we have a partnership with one tree planted. So far we have planted over 2,000 trees.
Responsible drinking
As you can probably tell by now… we love a good Cocktail. We talk about enjoying the party and having fun with cocktails. But we do also recognise that as a brand, we have a duty to promote responsible drinking.
We are actively anti-binge drinking, and always conduct stringent checks to ensure nothing in our messaging encourages excessive drinking - even subconsciously.
